Garden 2010: The Official Plant List
This has been sitting on my desk for a couple weeks now. Sorry about the delay, but the OFFICIAL PLANT LIST had to be notarized and approved by the garden regents. All that means is we had to sit down and figure out what to add and subtract.
But now it’s sitting in front of me and it’s all signed and nobody can complain about it anymore.
Without further adieu:
Carrots
Cantaloupe

Are We Really Going to Blog About Gardening?
The simple answer to that question is yes. My name is Jake and I’m going to blog about gardening. My uncle and dad assist in the gardening but not the writing, so that’s what I’m here for.
For the record, we’re not talking about some small herb garden your sister that lives in the city keeps on her balcony or the fun little flower garden your grandma keeps out back. This...

Please Don't Ever Say "Untimely Death"
Every once in awhile there are things that just make me say, “What? That makes no sense.” Most of the time they’re just little phrases that people use without thinking about it.
Today I will attack this phrase: untimely death.
In late February a colleague of mine covering the Notre Dame hockey team died. He was 43. Like a lot of unexpected deaths, one day he was there and the...
The latest Blackhawks commercial. Something tells me neither Patrick Kane nor Jonathan Toews will be able to grow much of a playoff beard.

I hope you’ve seen the hockey movie “Slap Shot” with Paul Newman. If not, shame on you. It’s one of my favorite sports movies.
Anyway, one of the movie’s hockey players has a son that just signed with the Maple Leafs and I covered him at Notre Dame. Good stuff.

From USA Today:
“Pranav Veera can recite the names of the U.S. presidents in the order they served in office. He can say the alphabet backward. Give him a date back to 2000, and he’ll tell you the day of the week.”
Who gives a fuck? You know, fifteen years ago, I’d have been really impressed. Now I can do all that shit with Google. And anyway, since when is saying the alphabet...

It is Chicago's Birthday, Let Us Rejoice
savingpaper:
It’s the birthday of Chicago, officially incorporated as a city on this day in 1837. It began as a town of 350 in 1833 and now has a population of more than 9.5 million, making it is the third largest metropolitan area in the United States, behind only New York City and Los Angeles. The city’s name is a derivative of the Native American word shikaakwa, which means “wild leek.” Its...
A Few Updates to This Dainty Little Blog
So, yeah, I’ve gotten back to this Tumblr blog and have made a few adjustments to the site.
The first is the comments actually work again and the second is the links on the left side to some of the other things I do.
Oh, and an updated “About,” which is nice.
